At the age of 88, Anna “Ann” Elliott (nee Hinsperger) of Walkerton put her production of quilt tops on hold when she passed away on January 17, 2024, at Brucelea Haven in Walkerton.
Ann is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Donald Elliott (2020), but survived by their children, Debbie (Michael) Kerr of Guelph, Steve (Sherrie) Elliott of Teeswater, Kevin (Angela) Elliott of Walkerton, and Glenn (Lucy) Elliott of Mildmay. She was also grandmother to 14 grandchildren (Kyle, Tyler, Jake, Eric, Isaac, Emily, Joshua, Madison, Emily, Lucas, Pina, Anna, Tony, and Jeremy) and 12 great-grandchildren.
One of 11 children, Ann is survived by her sisters Verena (Clarence – predeceased) Strauss, Virginia (Frank) Reis, as well as her brothers, Rev. Ed Hinsperger, Walter (Marg) Hinsperger, and Dave (Joyce) Hinsperger.
In addition to her parents, John and Anna (nee Stroeder) Hinsperger, she is predeceased by her siblings Angela (Clare) Kraemer, Rosemary (Jerry) Murawsky, Raymond (Norma) Hinsperger, Norbert (Helen) Hinsperger, Harvey (Irene) Hinsperger. She is survived by brother-in-law Clare Kraemer (Angela) and sister-in-law Velma Cornett (Raymond).
In addition to family, Ann spent time being crafty (but in a good way). She did needlepoint, knitting, and sewing and it was sewing that played the biggest part in her life. In her mid-teens, she began her sewing career at the Arrow shirt factory in Kitchener. From there she worked from home sewing clothes for a small group of people. She then returned to the workforce and spent many years working at Bodgon and Gross Furniture.
Well after she retired, in her 80s, she began to sew regularly again. In fact, over the course of 8 years, she sewed (as a volunteer) approximately 1,000 quilt tops that were subsequently assembled into quilts and distributed to families in need.
Being able to sew those quilt tops for the rest of her life was the greatest gift she could have received. It was her passion.
Ann’s family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Cameron’s in Walkerton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Sacred Heart Church, Walkerton. Fr. Leszek Szczygiel officiating. Reception to follow.
Spring interment will take place at Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Cemetery, Deemerton.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Asthma Canada or Brucelea Haven Activation Department would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made online at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com
