Obituary of Archibald “Archie” Roger Larkin
LARKIN, Archibald (Archie) Roger 79
Born on September 15, 1944, Archie passed away at South Shore Regional Hospital on January 15, 2024.
Born in East Pubnico but raised in Bridgewater, Archie was a devoted father, partner, stepfather, and employee of South Shore Ready Mix Ltd since 1969. During Archie’s time working at SSRM, he worked as a concrete truck operator, concrete pump operator, rock slinger truck operator, lead operator of the concrete block plant, concrete batcher, and dispatcher. In his last many years at SSRM, he became the loader operator. Archie devoted his life to his SSRM “Family” where he felt most happy. He was the first and only employee of SSRM to receive his second 25-year service watch and was the longest serving employee since the concrete plant opened in 1965. He was so proud the day he received “his” loader with air conditioning, which meant no more sweating in the heat for him.
Archie did a bit of international traveling, including an African Safari, an Alaskan Cruise, and a voyage through the Panama Canal. In Archies’ free time, he enjoyed playing bingo and jigsaw puzzles.
Archie was predeceased by his parents Sidney and Jean (Rhodenizer); sisters, Shirley (Walter Mailman), Elizabeth (Merlin Robar) and Marilyn (predeceased by Arleigh Guest); brother, Francis; and mother of his children, ex-wife Margaret (Hurshman).
He is survived by children Sandi (Cindy), Cornwall PEI; Alan, Midville Branch and Anthony, Pictou County; partner of over 30 years Roxanne Barry, Bridgewater; and stepdaughter Stacey (Frank) McKay, Halifax; sister, Ella (Albert) Rafuse; brothers, David (Margeurite); and Leroy (Cheryl), all of Bridgewater; several grandchildren, great children; numerous nieces and nephews.
A family only graveside committal will take place at the Bridgewater Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to SHAID Animal Shelter, the Canadian Cancer Society, or any other charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater where online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
