Frances “Ilene” Patterson nee: Morris Obituary
The family of Ilene Patterson are sad to announce her death on January 11th, 2024.
Ilene was born to Clarabell and Cecil Douglas Morris on February 16th 1927 at their general store in West Zorra, ON. The oldest of four children, she grew up in Ontario and Quebec.
Ilene moved to Vancouver in the late 1940’s shortly after completing her nurses training. There she met Charles Patterson on a blind date. They were married shortly after in 1950 and had three children, David, Kathryn and Susan.
Ilene and “Chuck” lived in various places around BC, finally settling on Salmon Arm in 1969.
Over the years Ilene and Chuck gave countless hours to their chosen charities, political organizations, and the Anglican Church. While in Salmon Arm Ilene was the director of volunteers at SLGH. She founded the Candy Stripers and initiated the Meals on Wheels program.
In the late 1980’s they moved to Winfield and later retired to Kelowna where they continued to volunteer.
After Charles died in 2009, Ilene remained in Kelowna. In 2017, to be closer to her daughters, she moved back to Salmon Arm and Lakeside Manor.
Ilene was predeceased by many. Most notable, her parents, her husband, her beloved son David, two sisters Joyce and Marjorie and grandson James Feniak.
She leaves behind two daughters, Kathryn M. Smith and Susan (Carey) Feniak and her brother Thomas (Betty) Morris. She will be fondly remembered as Grandma P by her eight remaining grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
The family wish to thank Doctors Laura and Keith Hepburn. Her caregivers, in particular Jules. Her friends and staff at Lakeside Manor. A very special thank you to Cathy and Peter Pachmann.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests a donation to the charity of your choice or Diabetes Canada in Ilene’s name.
There will be a celebration of life planned at a later date.
