Evelyn Smith Obituary
Evelyn Elizabeth Smith
July 14, 1947-January 12, 2024
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Evelyn at Selkirk Regional Health Centre on January 12th after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer.
She is survived by her brother Jim (Gloria), sister Judy (Jon), daughters Kenna (Warren) and Heather (Dan), granddaughters Desiree (John), Michelle, Grace and Annaliese, and great grandsons William, Michael and Logan. Also her beloved cat, Saul (Sully).
After retiring from being a shift supervisor at Melet Plastics in 2015, she moved out to the farm with Heather, Dan & the girls, where she dove into the vegetable gardens, picking & preserving but most of all, making quilts. She was an extremely talented quilter, attending many quilt shows & retreats with Kenna and the quilting ladies. She donated many quilts to Project Linus, Cancer Care and Sarah’s Place. Mittens and toques were made/donated for 25+ years to the Christmas Cheer Board.
Our family wants to thank the paramedics, Selkirk Regional Health Centre staff on Surgery & Med/Surgery, Dr’s Alexander, Paradoski, & Costa for their outstanding care, as well as Cancer Care Dr’s Viallet, Leylek and Maksymiuk & their clinic nurses.
Cremation has taken place and as per mom’s wishes, there will be no service. A private gathering will be held in late spring to celebrating her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
