BettyAnn Bansfield Obituary
BANSFIELD, BettyAnn (nee Donaldson)
August 4, 1939 – January 7, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of BettyAnn, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Trillium Care Centre, Kingston, at the age of 84.
BettyAnn was born on the island of Tobago to the late John and Eudora Donaldson. Her father, a founding member of the People’s National Movement (PNM), served as the Minister of Education in the PNM government until his death in 1961 during which time the John S. Donaldson Technical Institute in Trinidad was established. She grew up in Belmont on the island of Trinidad in the twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago.
BettyAnn was one of five children. Her siblings included Marian Donaldson, Kathryn Baptiste (deceased), Rosemary James (deceased), and John S. Donaldson (deceased). She attended Bishop Anstey High School and after graduation worked at the Trinidad Public Library in Port of Spain, Trinidad for over 25 years. BettyAnn participated as a masquerader in Trinidad’s annual Carnival celebrations for many years.
BettyAnn married the love of her life Calvin (deceased) in Kingston Ontario on April.30 1987 after she migrated to Canada.
She will be sadly missed by her sister Marian, nieces Patricia Assan, and Joye Donaldson-Honeywell and nephews Gerard Haizel, John Donaldson, Edmund Donaldson, Harold James and David James.
Most people who knew her could attest to BettyAnn’s sense of humor and quick wit. High school friends mentioned her numerous ‘school girl pranks’ and her ability to create words that clearly stated the message she was trying to convey which usually resulted in laughter.
BettyAnn was an avid Scrabble player. Friends from her young adult years shared stories of late nights of competitive Scrabble games when BettyAnn would regularly play words that were unknown to other players. She usually proved the validity of such words by turning to her trusted companion – the Official Scrabble Dictionary. This passion for playing Scrabble continued into her marriage where she and Calvin played this game every evening for several years.
While residing in Kingston, Ontario, BettyAnn and Calvin were a part of a close-knit group of friends who gathered at least once monthly for a variety of social activities.
A funeral service will be announced at a later date.
For those who wish, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
