On Sunday, January 7, 2024, Gunther May left this earth and was reunited with his wife, Jeanne and many other family members. Gunther leaves to carry on his legacy, his children, sons, Darrell (Fay) & Tom (Toni) both of Elk Point; daughter, Katharine (Gerry) of Ardrossan; 8 grandchildren & 12.5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife, Jeanne in 2020; parents, Max & Ida May; brother, John; and sisters, Gerda & Rita.
Gunther took over his family’s farm at the tender age of 16 and spent all his working years on that same land , by the end of his days on the farm he ran one of the first purebred Charolais herds in the area and by then was farming 4 quarters of land. Gunther was well known in the Stoney Lake area, worked with neighbours on many threshing crews back in the day, and was one of the founding members of the Stoney Lake Stampede Association. In the 1960s and 1970s he was local parade favorite on his beautiful Tennessee Walking Horse “Pal”. Gunther and Jeanne retired to the Ardrossan area, however Gunther came “home” to Elk Point for his final years. He said he wanted to finish this life where he had started it. Gunther lived with dementia for his last years but was well cared for at the Elk Point Extended Care. Extra special thanks to his daughter-in-law, Fay who was always there to do the special little things that make life grand.
