Alice Annie Sayewich (nee Ramsay) passed away in the early hours of January 6th, 2024 in her 92nd year of life.
Born in 1932 in Parry Sound, she was pre-deceased by her father William Ramsay and mother Sarah Ramsay (nee Munro) and brother Bill Ramsay. Loving wife of the late Frederick (Fred) Sayewich (1930 – 1976). Mother of Douglas Sayewich, Daniel (Debra) Sayewich, Cheryl (Daniele) Patrizio, and Katherine White (Mark Watson). Nana of Sonja (Cory), Nicholas (Bo-Rayanne), Addison (Kayla), Nicole (Jonathan), Penny (La-Nai), Kaitlyn (Owen), Meaghan (Yvan), Courtney, and Spencer (Becky). Alice was also the Great-Nana to 13 great grandchildren: Jaeger, Dominic, Bentley, Benjamin, Cadence, Jordyn, Carson, Emmett, Marissa, Connor, Abigail, Lincoln, and Ruby.
After the passing of her beloved husband Fred, she spent many years enjoying travel, social events and companionship with Alan Capstick. We thank the Capstick family for keeping her in their thoughts these past years. She was raised in the Dillon area on the shores of Georgian Bay. Alice got to enjoy the views of the Big Sound in her last weeks here with us. She was curious about the world, always breaking out the atlas to learn where every place was. But she loved “her” Georgian Bay the most, calling it the most beautiful place on earth. Alice was a creative and thoughtful crocheter. Hundreds of crocheted Christmas balls and trees adorn Christmas displays across the country, a beautiful tribute to her skills and dedication to her hobby. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A visitation will be held at Logan’s Funeral Home, 81 James Street, Parry Sound on Saturday, January 13th from 11:00 – 12:30, with memories of Alice being shared at 12:30, followed by a light lunch. Hillcrest Cemetery spring internment.
I am sitting by the Bay watching a beautiful sailboat leave the shore. As I watch, it gradually gets smaller and eventually disappears over the horizon. At first, I mourn my loss. Then I realize that, just over the horizon, someone is happily shouting: “Here she comes!”
