KHALID SALMAN JASIM, PhD
On January 2, 2024, Khalid Salman Jasim (73) passed away with his family, wife Heather Muir, daughter Saarah, son Adam, and son-in-law DJ by his side.
The oldest of 9 siblings, Khalid was born to Salman Jasim Hussein and Sabria Muhammad Ali Salman in Iraq, where he completed his undergraduate degree. Khalid completed his PhD in Chemistry in Dublin, Ireland and then came to Canada to work at the University of Waterloo as a Post-Doctoral Fellow.
Khalid and Heather met through mutual friends, married, and soon after moved to Calgary, Alberta so he could pursue another Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Calgary.
Khalid was absolutely thrilled with the arrival of daughter, Saarah, and son, Adam; Khalid was a devoted father. Khalid loved being Jiddu (Grandpa) to Kristi, Jamey, and Lachlan.
Khalid’s working career took him to numerous locations across the country, including Montreal, Cornwall, Port Alice, and Gibsons, BC. He began his career working in research and environmental processes and ended as Technical and Environmental Manager.
Khalid was actively involved in his community in numerous ways. He was a member of the Optimist Club, coached soccer, tutored college students, was part of and chaired School Councils, led ping pong groups, judged science fairs, and continuously mentored others.
Khalid was an active, caring, creative, and innovative person whose number one priority was family around the world, and he kept the family relationships strong and thriving. Khalid made close friends and served in each community in which he resided, helping others whenever possible, without seeking recognition. Besides many sports, Khalid’s hobbies included life-long learning, gardening, home repairs, sports, automotive repairs, quantum mechanics, board games, fishing, hiking, and starting ping pong/table tennis clubs.
Khalid was a cherished husband, father, son, brother, uncle, in-law, and friend, and he will be dearly missed. We will gather to commemorate and celebrate Khalid’s life on January 20th at Wartman Funeral Home in Napanee at 11:00 am, Reception to follow. Charitable donations can be made to Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario.
