Marcel Henry VanLamoen
August 6, 1936 – January 2, 2024
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Marcel VanLamoen, announce his passing on Tuesday January 2, 2023 in his 88th year.
Marcel leaves behind his devoted and cherished wife of nearly 40 years, Rita. He was a loving and proud father to Carla Matos (George), Angela Haier (Rick) and Anthony VanLamoen. He was lucky enough to have 3 bonus children, Scott Mawhiney (Kim), Leanne Buchanan (Jim) and Sara Dekeyser (Kevin). He was a loving Opa to 6 grandchildren, Grandpa Marcel and “Celly” to 7 and a sweet great grandpa to 2.
He was pre-deceased by his sisters and brother, Nettie, Ann and Wim.
Marcel immigrated to Canada at age 17 knowing very little English, but with high hopes for a bright future. He quickly adapted to his new life in Saint George, Ontario. He was a hard worker who held many jobs in the beginning, trying to make a life for himself. Eventually he came to have a long and rewarding career with Canada Life, formerly known as Prudential Insurance.
Over the years, Marcel had many hobbies and talents. In his early years he was active in the Boy Scout movement and he always enjoyed the outdoors while on camping trips with his family. He was an accomplished drummer and member of a band for many years. Later in life, Marcel became an experienced wood worker and many will remember him from the Senior’s Centre where he mentored others in their pursuits to learn the craft. Marcel and Rita moved to Hickory Hills in 2010 and cultivated a crop of friends, through events and socials, that felt more like family.
The family invites you to celebrate Marcel’s life, on January 13, 1-4 p.m., at the Tillsonburg Community Centre, Lions Auditorium, 45 Hardy Street. Tributes to Marcel begin at 2 p.m.
A private interment at the Tillsonburg cemetery will be held at a later time.
