Lavern C Middlebrook
Lavern C. Middlebrook (91) passed away peacefully in his sleep at St. Mary’s Gardens in Timmins Ontario on January 2, 2024.
Lavern was born and grew up on a farm near Markham Ontario along with his parents and 11 siblings. At 18, he began a career in construction and in 1957 he married Evelyn Hanna. They had three children together Thomas, Vivian and Belinda and lived in many places including Elliot Lake ON, Orlando and Miami Fl, Smooth Rock Falls ON, Gravenhurst ON, Colonsay SK before finally settling down in Timmins ON in 1970. In 1983 Lavern and Evelyn divorced and in 1987 he committed to his life partner and best friend Perla Mendoza. Lavern and Perla celebrated their 36th Anniversary in December.
Since retirement Lavern and Perla have travelled to the Philippines each winter to spend time with family including Perla’s children Michael Mendoza and Marieper de Vera and grandchildren Trisha Mendoza and Miguel Mendoza. And then to go off on great adventures searching for gold and treasure! This tradition carried on until this past year. While In Ontario, Manitoulin Island and Timmins were home base.
Lavern is survived by his sister Kay Audet; his wife, Perla Mendoza; his children, Tom Middlebrook (Lesley) Vivian Middlebrook (Chris ) and Belinda Moss (Joel); grandchildren, Blythe Middlebrook, Hayden Middlebrook, Drew Moss and Benjamin Moss; Stepchildren, Michael Mendoza (Theresa) and Marieper de Vera (Lenard) and step grandchildren Trisha Mendoza and Miguel Mendoza.
Lavern was a character. Life was always an adventure with him. He was a hard worker, had great resilience and approached each day enthusiastically. He loved food, especially Perla’s cooking, making, and drinking wine and having a rum ‘n coke before dinner. He loved finding and collecting antiques and enjoying beautiful days on the beach or in the garden.
We are thankful for the zest for life and inspiration he has instilled in us and will miss him dearly.
