Verna (Bauman) Gingrich passed away peacefully from the encircling love of her family into the presence of her Lord on January 3, 2024 at Lakeland Long-Term Care Centre, Parry Sound. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edwin (2009).
Loving mother of Elaine Gingrich (Ken 2020), Judy Kropf (Peter), Stephen Gingrich (Suzanne), Rose Biehn (Ed), Stafford Gingrich (Beth), and Derrick Gingrich (Brenda).
Verna was a cherished grandmother to her 25 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She adored each one with her whole heart.
Also predeceased by her parents, Henry and Nancy (Martin) Bauman, her sister Erma Gingrich, and her five brothers, Abner, Milton, Earl, Elmer and Henry Bauman.
She is fondly remembered by two sisters-in-law, Marie Bauman and Susanna Bauman.
Verna and Edwin were married in 1950 and lived in Elmira and Floradale, Ontario their first 21 years.
They moved to Parry Sound in 1972 to help establish the Otter Lake Mennonite Church in Foley, and faithfully supported the church and school their remaining years together.
Verna will be remembered for her love and commitment to her family and her friends, and for her kind and gentle spirit sensed by all she encountered. Over the years she opened her heart and home to many children (babysitting and informal fostering), boarders, neighbours, and visitors from far and near. She found her Joy in the Lord, her guiding Light in His Word, and her Strength for each day in God’s strength. The family wishes to thank the staff at Lakeland for their kind, compassionate care shown to Verna throughout her time there. Friends will be received at the Torrance Funeral Home (89 Bowes St., Parry Sound) on Sunday January 7, 2024 from 4 – 7 PM and on Monday January 8, 2024 from 12 – 1 PM. The Funeral will follow at 1 PM. Spring interment Foley Memorial Cemetery. If desired, donation to the Northern Youth Programs (Beaver Lake Camp) or Lakeland Long Term Care would be appreciated.
