Obituary of Madeleine Marie Holmes
With heavy hearts, the family of Madeleine Marie Holmes (née Guillemette), announces her passing away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in her 91st year. Forever in the hearts of; her four sons Ronald (Jocelyne), Norman (Dallus), Daniel (Dianne) and Robert, as well as 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Madeleine was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Émile, and their son Richard.
Madeleine was born on May 10, 1933, in Corbeil, Ontario to Lionel and Alida (née Perron) Guillemette. She was the second of thirteen children. Madeleine met her beloved husband Émile Holmes in a shoe store, where she was working at the time. They were married in 1951, in Timmins, and settled soon after in Welland. They were devoted partners in life and loving parents to five wonderful sons. When Madeleine and Émile retired, they spent many years travelling to Texas and other North American destinations. She was a woman of strong faith, an excellent cook, baker and seamstress who loved to socialize and laugh. During quieter times, she enjoyed knitting, reading and working on various kinds of puzzles.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & RECEPTION CENTRE 827 East Main St., Welland on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1pm, at Église du Sacré-Coeur, 72 Empire St., Welland. In memory of Madeleine, donations made to the Fonds Foyer Richelieu Welland would be appreciated by the family.
