Lynn Charlene Werkmeister passed peacefully at Brucelea Haven LTC on December 25, 2023. She was 64 years old. You may have known Lynn as Lynn Gilkinson or Lynn Burke, as a friend, a talented hairstylist, a businesswoman, or as somebody living with Parkinsons Disease.
Lynn grew up in Hanover and Chesley with her mom and dad Darlene and Roy Gilkinson (predeceased), along with her two sisters. She trained at Career School of Hairstyling in St. Catharines while already embarking on her career at Dale’s Hairstyling. She opened and co-owned the Hair Connection in Kincardine. Co-ownership of Burke’s Foodland took Lynn to Southampton, where she launched “Trends Hair Salon”. Lynn’s clients appreciated Lynn’s talent and strong work ethic. Lynn continued her career as long as possible once she lived with Parkinsons Disease.
Loving and supporting Lynn was a village. While still living in her home, Lynn enjoyed visits and happy hours with her peeps. These continued as much as possible once Lynn became a resident of Brucelea Haven in Walkerton. Thank you to the caring staff of this facility for allowing Lynn’s circle to continue providing what she loved most. Lynn had a caring group of friends who remained her social and care circle as her condition took her on the roller coaster ride of her life.
Lynn was filled with love for her two sons, Jesse Burke of Salt Spring Island and Tyler Burke of Southampton, her daughter-in-law Carrie and two grandsons Griffen and Milo. Her furry companion Tucker was always by her side.
Lynn is survived by her husband Herbert Werkmeister of Southampton. Left missing their sister are Dawn Brownlee (Don, predeceased) and Laurie (and husband Rick) Symonds of Hanover. Lynn will be missed by her besties Cathy (Gert) Alcombrack of Kincardine and Tony Schnurr of Port Elgin. Lynn’s special Aunt Kitten (Sheila) and Uncle Wayne Horst lovingly watched over Lynn as parents would. Lynn maintained a special bond with many, notably the Burke family (including the boys’ dad Wayne Burke of Kincardine) and Nancy Norwood of Southampton.
Cremation has taken place and interment with her parents in the Hanover Cemetery will be private. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Parkinsons Society of Southwestern Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
