It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our sister Brenda Tardiff on January 16, 2023 at the age of 62.
Brenda loved horses and it was at a very early age that she would head off to Sunshine Riding Academy on the bus then she took the long walk from Ness to Saskatchewan Avenue to see them. She was there so often that she was soon leading the trail rides and helping out with the farm chores. This led to Brenda purchasing a pony and starting her own business leading race horses to the starting gate at Assiniboia Downs. This was the beginning of her long association with race horses as she earned her trainers license in Calgary and became a trainer. She was also very creative and made jockey silks, horse blankets and blinkers for many owners and trainers over the years. In her later years she worked at the Downs in summer and headed to Phoenix with the horses in winter.
Brenda is survived by her two sons (Delano and Jeffery); sister (Marlene); brothers Brian and Roger; and many nieces and nephews.
She is going to be missed so much by us all.
We all “love you to the moon and back.”
The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and support staff at Seven Oaks Hospital (Unit 3, 3rd floor) for all the compassion and care they gave to Brenda during her last few months.
She will be laid to rest at Green Acres Cemetery this summer.
