Liz passed away peacefully at her home in Tillsonburg on Monday, December 18th, 2023. Predeceased by her parents, Eve Elizabeth and Ernest Modrits, siblings Katherine (Howard) Houghson and Martin (Lois) Modrits. Survived by her children Dwight (Marion) Helmer, Marlane (Ken) Gibson, Penny (Dimitri) Manousos and several grand, great, and great-great grandchildren.
She was a truly unique individual who chose in life to always march to the beat of her own drum. Those who knew Liz also knew that she loved a good joke and belly laugh, gave generously to others, loved cats (especially her Jezebel) and had one of the greenest thumbs in Norfolk County.
A founder and an honorary lifelong member of Tillsonburg’s Horticultural Society, Liz had a natural born wisdom of flowers, plants and trees and became somewhat of a local legend for the thousands of species she lovingly grew on her two acres of paradise. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and in joining friends on various plant tours throughout Canada and the U.S. and though she would never call herself an artist, she cultivated her own impeccable flair in creative floral arrangements which resulted in winning many competitions. Years ago she was also gifted a flower in her own name, an agapanthus called “Luminous Liz”.
A woman like no other, you will be missed by those of us whose lives you’ve touched. And as sad as we are that you are no longer here, we are happy that you are finally amidst the peace you so deserve.
We will always miss you. We will never ever forget you and we thank you for everything.
A celebration of life for Elizabeth will be held at a later date and will be announced.
