It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Leo Poirier on Friday, December 15th, 2023, at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Denise (nee Lesage); cherished father to Marc-André (Cheryl) and Sophie (Rodrigo); adored Pappy to Christian (Noémi), Alexandra, Émilie, Daniel and Joel and great grandfather to Elliott. He’s survived by his brother and sisters.
Leo was an exceptional athlete throughout his life, which continued into his golden years. He was the biggest sports fan and especially loved cheering on his grandchildren in their sporting endeavours. He was an imposing figure whom people loved to be around. Leo had a larger-than-life personality and was always able to light up any room. He had many friends who will miss him dearly.
The funeral will take place on December 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of the funeral home Les Jardins du Souvenir located at 75 Boul. Fournier in Gatineau. The family will be present from 1:30 p.m. to receive condolences.
The family would like to thank the staff at Queensway Carleton Hospital for all the excellent care provided.

C’est avec le cœur lourd que nous vous annonçons le décès soudain de Léo Poirier, le vendredi 15 décembre 2023, à l’âge de 82 ans, entouré de sa famille aimante.
Il était l’époux bien-aimé de Denise (née Lesage) pendant 59 ans ; père chéri de Marc-André (Cheryl) et Sophie (Rodrigo) ; le grand-père adoré de Christian (Noémi), Alexandra, Émilie, Daniel et Joel ainsi que l’arrière-grand-père adoré d’Elliott. Il laisse également dans le deuil son frère et ses sœurs.
Léo a été un athlète exceptionnel tout au long de sa vie, qui s’est poursuivie jusqu’à l’âge d’or. Il était un grand fan de sport et aimait particulièrement encourager ses petits-enfants dans leurs efforts sportifs. C’était un personnage imposant que les gens aimaient côtoyer. Léo avait une personnalité plus grande que nature et était toujours capable d’éclairer n’importe quelle pièce. Il avait de nombreux amis à qui il manquera beaucoup.
Les funérailles auront lieu le 28 décembre 2023 à 14h00 à la chapelle de la maison funéraire Les Jardins du Souvenir située au 75 Boul. Fournier, Gatineau. La famille sera présente dès 13h30 pour recevoir les condoléances.
La famille tient à remercier le personnel de l’Hôpital Queensway Carleton pour tous les excellents soins prodigués.
