Carina Schuurman Obituary
Carina (Catharina) Schuurman (née Oussoren) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her home in Grand Rapids, Michigan just after the sun rose on December 15, 2023. Carina was born in Breukelen, Netherlands on February 19, 1968, the firstborn child of Piet and Willy Oussoren. She was sister to Anja, Marco (in memory), Peter (Julie), and Hans (in memory, husband to Rachel). Her family immigrated to Canada in 1981. She was the beloved wife of Derek for over 34 years and nurturing mother to John (Alyssa), Helena (Dave) Schuurman-Drenth, David (Alyssa), and Julia. She nurtured many students as an elementary Christian school teacher over the years, both in Ontario and Michigan, and touched the lives of many friends. She will be remembered for her creative eye expressed in art, gardening, homemaking, and her sincere faith in her Lord Jesus.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 7-9 p.m. at MEADOWLANDS CRC, 211 Stonehenge Dr., Ancaster Ontario. A Celebration of Life Service will take place the following day, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at IMMANUEL CRC, 61 Mohawk Rd. W., Hamilton, beginning at 2 p.m. Another Memorial Service will be held later at Shawnee Park CRC in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome for the school communities that were part of her life: Trinity Christian School (Burlington, ON), Calvin Christian School (Hamilton, ON), Rockford Christian School (Rockford, MI), as well as Indwell in Hamilton, Ontario. Please sign the Tribute Wall.
