Yolande passed away with a Coca Cola in hand on Sunday December 10, 2023, nearly six months after celebrating her 100th birthday.
Yolande was a petite woman, born June 17, 1923, in Montreal. Yolande and her family came West by train when she was four. Her parents, Eva Lapierre and Eugene Bertrand farmed south of Gravelbourg, SK, where all thirteen children grew up. Yolande is survived by her youngest sister Florence Ell. Upon moving to Regina as a young adult, Yolande met our father Leo on the church steps of the Blessed Sacrament. They were married in 1945 and raised their family of four around Regina. Leo Jr., Larry, Monty and Jocelyn were Yolande’s pride and joy. She was known for her flair and style and was the kindest person you could ever meet. Yolande loved her six grandchildren and was delighted with her eight great-grandchildren. She was fierce in what she believed in, especially her faith. After decades of volunteering and singing, Yolande retired from some of these activities at the age of ninety-five, but still loved to sing every chance she could. She was blessed with good health, a large family and many friends. Friends and family will miss Yolande’s levity and lovingness.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Selo Gardens for the compassionate and loving care, headed by Lorelei Fletcher. Yolande blessed our hearts with her life, her laughter, and her love. As mom’s granddaughter Katherine stated, “It’s an end of an Era.” in grandma’s passing. A Celebration of Yolande’s Life will be held in the spring as mom hated the cold.
