Gerald Downey Egger of Calgary, AB, died on Sunday, December 3, 2023, after a brief illness.
Born October 27, 1930, in Barons, Alberta, Gerry, also known as Puck to his grandchildren, was the fifth of six children born to John and Clara (Hatch) Egger. A true child of the prairies, he lived in Calgary, Exshaw, and Lethbridge during his lifetime.
Gerry worked for the CPR, starting as a wiper on steam engines at 15 years of age, and retiring as an engineer on diesel trains in 1992 at 62 years of age.
He was a friend of Bill W for over thirty years, attending many meetings throughout southern Alberta. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Zanni Egger, his parents, Clara Hatch Egger and John Egger; his siblings Inez Pawluk, Doris Goertzen, Lois Miller, John, and Douglas; and his grandson Mark Egger.
Gerry is survived by his children and their spouses, Mark (Evelyn Egger), Lori (Steve Laut), and Christine (Greg Hirshoren); his grandchildren, Alyson Egger, Danae Laut (Tanner Leakos), and Tristan Laut; and his close friend, Esther Cioni.
Thank you to the staff at Peter Lougheed Provincial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
