Obituary of Howard Vessey
Howard “Nelson” Vessey of Riverview, NB passed away peacefully at the Moncton City
Hospital after a short illness on Friday, December 8, 2023. Born in York, PEI a son of
the late Richard and Dorothy Vessey.
Nelson was born and raised in York, PEI, later moving to Moncton and retiring in
Riverview, NB. Educated at the Prince of Wales College, Nelson went on to have a long
fulfilling 40-year career with the Agriculture Canada/Canadian Food Inspection Agency
as a Meat Products Specialist and National Program Advisor to Industry and
Management. Nelson was passionate about helping people. He spent several years as
a National Officer with Agriculture Union/PSAC including terms as National Second Vice
President and Finance Chair. Nelson was a Board of Director and Service Treasurer for
the Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents Rights. Riverview Lions Club
was dear to Nelson’s heart, and he spent many hours volunteering and looking after his
bingo ladies.
Survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Vessey; children, Chris (Bev MacLean) and
Sherri Vessey of PEI; stepdaughters, Lorretta (Mike Perry) Wooley, and Colleen (Mike
Doiron) Ivey of Moncton, NB; sisters, Florence (Bobby) Bryenton of Charlottetown, PEI,
Dorothy (Eric Groleau) of Shawinigan, QC; brother, Dwight (Joan MacKinnon) Vessey of
Charlottetown, PEI; grandfather to: Garrett (Paige Felker) Vessey, Logan (Charley)
Vessey and Kayla (Ron) Hartley; great grandpapa to: Ethan Vessey, Dawson and Porter
MacLean, Jasper and Harrison Hartley; Papa Nelly to: Paija, Teagan and Maleck
Doiron.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Fergusons Riverview Funeral Centre, 214
Pine Glen Rd, Riverview, NB (506) 857-9544 where a Celebration of Life will be held on
Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Nelson made to the Riverview Lions Club, 701
Coverdale Rd., Riverview, NB E1B 3L1 (506) 386-5202 would be appreciated by the
family.
