Eileen Laverne Galbraith (formerly Ferguson, nee Beam) met her Lord and Saviour on December 6, 2023, three days before her 99th birthday. Eileen is survived by her son, Eric Ferguson (partner Sue) and daughter Susan Evenden (husband Paul), sister Grace Maclachlan, grandchildren Daniel, Meghan, Michael, Jordan, Shannon Brea, Jessica and Emma and five great grandchildren. Predeceased by her beloved husband Donald Ferguson (1988), daughter Joy Lang (2015), son John (2019), second husband David Galbraith (2005) and two daughters, Brenda and Molly in infancy.
Eileen was born on the family farm near Harley, ON. She had a lifelong enjoyment of baseball and as a teenager played on the Burford Bluebirds Women’s Softball team, who were inducted into the 2018 Brant County Sports Hall of Fame. After their marriage in June of 1944, Donald’s insurance career took them to many locations throughout Ontario including Brantford, Cambridge, Belleville, Midland, and Thunder Bay. She especially loved the Parry Sound area where they were long time cottagers. Eileen treasured her friendships, and particularly valued the church families they were part of over the years. Many lives were touched by her generosity and encouragement. She was a woman of strong Christian faith which she often said sustained her through the ups and downs she experienced in her long life. Most recently she had been a faithful member of Queensway Baptist Church. For the past three years she was a resident of the John Noble Home where she received exceptional, compassionate care from the staff.
