It is with great sadness that the family of Velma Quick announce her passing on December 6, 2023, at 84 years of age. Loving wife of the late Harold Robert Quick. Daughter of the late George and Thelma Taverner. Loving mother of Brenda Lehoux (Jacques), Cheri Beneteau (Wayne), Denise Burgess (Harvey), Ann-Marie Smith, and Elizabeth LePage. Survived by brothers Elton and Douglas Taverner. Predeceased by siblings Ruth Johnston, Cliff Taverner, Shirley Chamberlain, Dawn Mack, Gwen Kennedy, Keith Taverner, and Hartley Taverner. Cherished grandmother (Quickie) to 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Velma was born in the small community of Allan’s corners, just east of Gravenhurst. She spent many years working in the orchards of the family farm. She also worked various other jobs including the deli at the Metropolitan Store in Leamington, cleaning at St. Clair College and she received her welder’s certificate from St Clair College while welding steel boxes for Hurricane Equipment in Oxley.
Velma was an avid knitter, reader and enjoyed gardening. She loved wildlife and especially bird watching. She was an excellent dancer and loved to waltz and polka with her husband at any opportunity.
Velma was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She worked actively in Primary, Relief Society, and in the Family History Center and was greatly loved by her church community.
