Lorraine Elizabeth Lichty – 70
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Elizabeth Lichty (November 02, 1953 – November 30, 2023). Born in Cape Breton, NS, Lorraine was the daughter of the late Bertha Elizabeth Crewe. She is predeceased by both her first husband, Curtis Freeman Conrad and her second husband, Brian Ezra Lichty. Lorraine had four brothers, Kenny Burkey (deceased) (Judy), Albert Crewe (Claire), Ray Crewe (Sharon), Frankie Crewe (Mary) and four sisters, Doris Pottie (Davie), Susie Pottie (Lauchie), Eileen Richard (Terry) and Sharon Hall (Trevor). Lorraine had four children, sons, Lawrence Conrad (Tanya), Adam Conrad (Melissa), and a daughter, Faye Edwards (John Paul). Lorraine had an extensive family including eleven grandchildren, Bryce, Gavin, Lacey, Kadin, Athena, Alexandra, Lainey, Hailey, Paisley, Cole and Cage.
Lorraine started off her career as a young food service member of the Victoria General Hospital where she met her first husband, Curtis Conrad. They married young and spent many years together building a life in the Upper Tantallon area where she lived to this day. It was in this same small community known as “Hubley Mill Lake Road” that she met her second husband, Brian Ezra Lichty, and whose name she kept after his death, after many more years together.
Lorraine loved spending time with her numerous grandchildren. To them, she was “Nanny” and they all spent hours sitting with her at the table, eating her treats and stealing all of the bubble gum she kept on hand for just that reason. She was the one person the kids in all of our extended families, asked to go see as much and as many times as we could take them.
Lorraine will be greatly missed by so many. In addition to her immediate family, she is also known as “Auntie Lorraine” to over twenty nieces and nephews, who all deeply loved her. Lorraine, aka “Big Mama” had a tight circle of friends for life. You would see her most times on her phone talking for hours with her siblings in Cape Breton, or with friends “on the road” she knew for years. Betty, Debbie or Bronwen were just a few. Everyone loved her infectious smile and mischievous laugh. She truly did make you feel better if you were down and she lit up a room with her very strong personality whenever she entered. She was the one person you waited for to start a gathering or to have a good time. Anyone who knew her knew how much she added to whatever and whoever she was around.
Her family would like to send an extra thank you to the staff of the QEII Intensive Care Unit. The staff were truly amazing and did absolutely everything they could to care for Lorraine in her very short time there. It was because of that team that she passed with sixteen family members by her side. She was never alone and we know she knew that.
A service will be held by the family in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Highway Peggy’s Cove Road, Upper Tantallon on a date yet to be set, sometime in the early Spring.
Funeral services are under the care and direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home. Messages and memorials can be directed to the Conrad/Edwards family by visiting www.rawalker.ca
