Raymond(Ray)James Delaney, 88, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023. He is predeceased by his wife Una; his parents Phillip and Mary; sisters Agnes and Mary; and, brothers Alphonsus, Leo, Stephen, Edward, Philip, Arthur. Leaving to mourn his children Sheree and Paul(Joanne) and grandchildren Connor and Colby. He is also survived by his sister Helen Stone, sisters-in-law Judy Bickford, Helen Delaney, Marie Dicks, Shirley Harris and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ray was born on Bell Island in 1935 and moved to Labrador City in 1962 where he worked for the Iron Ore Company of Canada. In 1964 he was joined by his wife Una where they spent 30 years raising their family and enjoying the outdoors, camping, and boating. Ray retired in 1992. He and Una moved to Hant’s Harbour where they enjoyed retirement and made many new friends especially at the Seaside Seniors Club, Hant’s Harbour. In 2019 Una and Ray moved to the Bay Roberts Retirement Centre.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bay Robert’s Retirement Centre for their care over the last four years. A special thank you to Ray’s nephew, Chuck and his wife, Maureda Penny for their many visits, the drives in the car, and running all those special errands. No funeral or memorial services will be held as per Ray’s wishes. His ashes will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Bell Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Janeway Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Greens Funeral Home, Winterton.
