Obituary
Bert Hiebert, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in Burlington, Ontario on Saturday, November 18, 2023 with his family by his side.
Bert was born into a large family in Randolf, MB on March 10, 1943 to John P. and Katherine Hiebert. He grew up on the farm, moving to Steinbach as a young teenager. Here he experienced new opportunities and life-long friendships. Bert became known as “Robin Hood” because of how he would always stick up for the underdog. He loved music and was trained by his older brother to become a soloist. As a teenager, he joined the Hiebert Brothers Quartet. His bass playing and deep voice brought him many opportunities to sing in choirs, play in rock bands, be on worship teams, and tour Europe/Russia with a choir and orchestra in 1990. He enjoyed sharing his love of music and faith in God with others.
He was a passionate football player and learned the importance of being a team player with the Landmark Dutchmen and Steinbach Wheelers for a number of years with his buddy Clint Toews. These experiences formed the foundation for teamwork in life and business.
Bert married the love of his life, Marion Leppky, on June 8th 1962. They were blessed with four beautiful children. During this time, Bert built three successful businesses in Steinbach: Bert’s Drywall, Woodlawn Realty and Holiday Travel. He did international land sales and development, including Autumnwood drive in Steinbach as well as other projects in Canada and USA. He loved speed, horses, convertibles, boating, waterskiing, and time with his family at the lake. He bought a motorhome and took the family on memorable trips, including a six-week vacation across western Canada, down the Pacific Coast Hwy through California/Disneyland, Mexico and Las Vegas.
Bert was an adventurous risk taker and problem solver. He was Mr. 911 when the occasion demanded it. In a battle, he’s the kind of guy you’d want next to you. Whether tackling a business deal or a quarterback, he had a mind that could always strategize to find a solution, either around or through it. He applied these skills in business and sales when they moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1987. These were both challenging and rewarding years for the family. Bert was blessed with new friendships, projects and opportunities. His dream project was to build family cottages in Muskoka.
His love for his wife and family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and adopted sons and daughters are his crowning glory. He never missed an opportunity to meet for a coffee. A time share, encourage and guide. His faith in God took a lifetime to develop with a few zigzags along the way, but what a testimony! What a story! Over the years it became as rich as his baritone voice.
Some life-time family highlights were two FamJams held in 2016 and 2019 with all the kids & grandkids gathered at Myron and Cheryl’s beautiful estate home near Steinbach, MB. These times together were like a dream for Bert and Marion with all the family together, the culmination of all they valued…family, laughter, music, great food, the sharing of faith and the passing of legacy.
Besides his loving wife Marion, he leaves to cherish his memory; son Myron (Cheryl) Hiebert, daughter Barbara (Barry) Simmons, daughter Audrey (Thomas) Marek, son Ryley (Nancy) Hiebert; grandchildren Emery Hiebert, Kallen (Brittney) Hiebert, Rhandi (Gionathan) Delvecchio, Maria (Cameron) Simmons-Parant, David, Samuel and Jordan Marek, Matthew, Megan and Evan Hiebert; great-grandchildren Finley, Nash, Aimes, Roman and Dawson. He also leaves two brothers, Jack Hiebert, Ed (Betty) Hiebert, sisters-in-law Lillian Hiebert and Mabel Hiebert (Vic) and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is being planned for spring 2024.

Undaunted
Not much he thought he couldn’t do
