Elsa Baldasaro
Peacefully, at St. Peter’s Hospital, with her family around her, on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Very loving and devoted wife to Dominic, Elsa’s husband of 65 years, who passed away in 2009. Cherished mother of Joe (Chris), Mark (Yolanda), Dominique (Gord) and Paula. Warm and fun-loving Gramsie of Amy, Jessica (Bart), Dominic (Marianne), Mark (Sandy), Alex (Alan), Rachel and Gabbi (Jason). Amazing Great-Gramsie of Ben, Ava, Henry, Isla Rose, Isabella, Julian, Adrian, Albert and Theodore. Beloved Godmother of Cecile. Predeceased by brothers Evo (Millie) and Adrian (Marie) and sisters-in-law Lil, Eleanor, Teresa (Guy) and Kay (Dino). Will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends.
Born in 1921, Elsa made good use of each of her nearly 103 years of life. Nicknamed “Micki” by her husband because she could fit in his pocket, she was a small package that housed an incredible capacity for love and joy. She loved to travel, taking her final trip to her homeland of Italy at the spritely age of 98, and made friends easily wherever she went. She could find delight as easily and as genuinely in the simple beauty of a wildflower, as in the intricate beauty of the Sistine Chapel. Warm and elegant in body and spirit, her heart and her home were always open and anyone, family or friend, neighbour or stranger, would find welcome, a smile and a seat at her table, where, if they were lucky, they might be treated to a slice of her incomparable pie, or perhaps a shot of Limoncello. She loved music and dancing, animals, the fresh tomatoes from her garden and the roses that were still blooming there the day of her passing. Above all, she was devoted to her family, showering them with her love whether hosting family get togethers, babysitting her grandchildren, or supporting and attending her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities and interests.
She was, and is, at the heart of us. We love you always, and your memory and your spirit will be with us when we laugh, when we love, and when we dance. Until we meet again.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff on 3 West at St. Peter’s Hospital who genuinely cared for Elsa. Special thanks to Elsa’s caregivers, Carrie, Flora and Cynthia, for the countless hours they spent with her, providing outstanding and compassionate care and companionship.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass for Elsa will be celebrated at St. Eugene Catholic Church (232 Queenston Road), corner of Queenston Road and Parkdale Avenue in Hamilton, on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. As per Elsa’s wish, a High Tea get together will take place following the Funeral Mass at the C Hotel, 1530 Stone Church Road East, Hamilton, from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
