Obituary
James Patrick McIntyre, 13.12.1942 – 27.11.2023
Jim, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He loved the city and the surrounding countryside (Northumberland) and, of course, Newcastle United, the team he supported till the day he died – literally: “we” beat Chelsea 4:1 on Saturday 25.11.
After 5 years in a junior seminary Jim finished his secondary education in Newcastle and attended university there. He started teaching in nearby Sunderland and then in Corby (Northamptonshire). In 1970 he emigrated to Peace River, Alberta, where he worked for one year as a teacher before taking up journalism. This was his profession until he came to Moncton in the 1980s.
Jim studied French at school so that bilingual New Brunswick was no problem. The countryside roundabout reminded him of home, a likeness which was underlined by the proximity of the Northumberland Strait which he often visited. He had a good bass voice and sang for years in the choir of the Catholic cathedral.
Jim will be missed by all who knew him.
Arrangements are under the professional care of Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd Moncton (506-858-1995). Condolences for the family can be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook Page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
