On Monday, November 20, 2023, Sandra Lee Margeson passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital as a result of Covid-19.
She was born on February 13, 1945 to Stan and Lina Henderson at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Mom attended high school in Trenton and then went on to take the Secretarial Course at Success Business College in Truro.
From there, she worked for American Express in Toronto before returning home to work at her father’s transport company, New Glasgow Express.
It was around this time when she met and married her former husband Ted Margeson on October 24, 1970.
In 1974 they welcomed their first son Jason into their lives, then three years later another son, Andrew was born.
In the mid 1970’s, the family took over the popular Peter Pan Motel and Lounge. A true fashionista and dedicated shopper, this allowed her fulfil her desire to offer trendy Nova Scotian items to both local folks and distant travelers through the First Mate’s Gift Shop on site.
In 2005 mom’s first granddaughter was born. This was the beginning of mom’s true golden years as she was never so happy as when Millie came into her life. They were true partners in crime. No coffee shop from Peters Cosy Corner to Tim Horton’s was safe from Millie and Mom.
In 2009 another granddaughter, Sarah, was welcomed and Mom once again relished the role of Nan to both girls for as long as she was able.
Due to declining health, she was forced to give up her apartment and move in to Glen Haven Manor in 2012 where she spent the last 11 years of her life.
She is survived by her ex-husband Ted (Anne Spencer), New Glasgow, Sons Jason (Penny Harnish), New Glasgow, and Andrew (Nadine Margeson and son Jackson Kelly), Corner Brook, Grandchildren Millie Margeson and Sarah Margeson and Brother Stan Henderson (Alberta), and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Stan and Lina Henderson and two children in infancy.
The family will receive friends from 6 -8 pm on Friday, November 24 in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, November 25 with Rev. Morley Shaw officiating.
Special thanks to the Aberdeen Hospital and Glen Haven Manor for all their help over the years. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, or Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
