Joshua Jeremy Mather passed so suddenly on November 12th, 2023 at his home on Brokenhead Ojibway Nation. Joshua leaves behind his beautiful love of his life of 11 years Cecilia Cote (Sealyboo); his mother-in-law Dorothy O’Dell; his brothers-in-law Kenneth Cote, Isaac (Teri) Cote, their children (Sienna, Aveah aka Aaron, Payton and his Kennedy aka Tooty), Josh Spence, and Osborn O’Dell; his sister-in-law Jay-Lyn (Dennis) O’Dell their children Benson and Brielle. Joshua adored all his nieces and nephews on both sides.
He would jump mountains to provide for us. He did odd jobs here and there. Josh started working in Brokenhead as a gas jockey at wavers and community store. After he left those jobs. He started working with Daniel Buckley on Homes Roofing and siding and other stuff. Daniel and Josh got along very well. Daniel worked him on his skills. Once Josh knew what he was doing he never looked back. He loved his roofing and Reno’s. Once Daniel moved away south of Winnipeg. Josh looked for work with Brian Kemp’s company working contracts for Brokenhead Housing. Then Josh left Kemp he started working at the Health centre as a causal Custodian. Where he remained until he passed. Josh also was full time for housing until he passed.
Josh helped anyone he could help. The community grew on josh or vis verse. Josh was a giver to anyone who needed a hand. I’m sure the community will miss him dearly.
My Joshua when I first met you in April of 2012. I didn’t give you a day to talk to me. Walked away to visit my nephews. When I came back to Yorkton in September of 2012. I casual smiled at you and said hi I’m Sealy. You introduced yourself Hi I’m Josh and I’m an asshole. I laughed and said so am I. We went out that night to get to know each other. You were such a gentleman towards me. I didn’t know how to take you serious or weirdo haha. I had an amazing time out with you. A few days passed. I asked you want get junk together. You were so confused haha. Than I said drink?!? But before we could enjoy our night you looked at me. Asked me out I said sure we can do that. Sealy that’s not an answer I said ok. I can tell Josh was getting annoyed by my vague answers. He piped up I’m only asking one more time do you want to be my girlfriend it’s a yes or no answer. I stuttered saying ye yes. You asked me to stay the night and wake up with him I promised I would stay and wake up with you. Then once he was out cold I dipped out so fast.
Then a few days passed. I randomly texted you I need water. You went to 7/11 got me water and came over. After working a 14hr shift at P & H Grains. We were inseparable since.
Josh quit his job with P & H. Moved to me in Brokenhead on November 7th. 2012 and resided with me until his passing.
My Joshua was the sweetest and kind and gentle man I ever met. I’m truly going to miss the love of my life. My Soulmate. I swear one of my guardian Angels guided him to me. After a year of losing my close Cousin Puddy. Josh and I clicked we got our jokes. We even thought of things and just laugh why did we think of that. We had a very deep bond with each other. I am going to miss his weird sense of humour, his cheekiness, his laugh, his smile, and his big brown eyes.
I always told Josh he was beautifully handsome. He never believed me. I said you are in my eyes and soul.
Josh had a special bond with cousins Jeremy Paquin 2017 (predeceased) and Tristen Guttormson. Tristen’s words for Josh. “My heart hurts for my best friend, my brother, my Cuzband. Batmann My life will never be the same, spending countless hours playing video games, watching our Star Wars Ashoka series or Marvel’s Loki series your company and loyal friendship will forever be cherished by me until the end of my days
till we meet again Batmann ❤️”
Josh had a close friend was like a brother to him William Wilson. They had a close bond. Will would always tease Josh about Cecilia. “I can’t believe my brother is going to marry my childhood bully.” We would all laugh about it.
Josh was also close to James Keller. Another great friend of his.
Honorary pallbearers are his uncles, aunties, nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends.
