Gale Patricia Martell, age 76, of Grande Greve, NS, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, with her family by her side.
Gale was born July 23, 1946 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to the late Elizabeth Margaret Sampson (Mountain) and the late Joseph Russell Cotie of Grande Greve.
In her free time Gale loved to knit. She was amazing at crocheting and would make large elaborate tablecloths that were sought after by many. She loved plants and enjoyed being outside puttering around the yard. Her cat Prince was a loving companion who enjoyed spending endless hours with her snuggling on the couch. In her younger years Gale enjoyed singing and was always the life of the party.
Gale is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Alexander Louis Martell of L’Ardoise, Nova Scotia. Alex was a loving devoted husband who would do anything for Gale, and she knew and appreciated it immensely right up to the end. In recent years Gale had begun to develop dementia, and Alex did everything to make her life easier. They loved going for weekend drives and enjoying the beautiful countryside together.
Gale is survived by her four children, Michael MacNeil (Edwina) of Oban, NS; Russell MacNeil (Selena) of Seaview, NS; Debbie Tobin of St. Peter’s, NS and Jolene Manegre (Marc) of St. Albert, AB; her seven grandchildren, Chrissy Tobin (Jason Leblanc), High River, AB; Daniel MacNeil (Melissa), Hay Cove, NS; Lyndon MacNeil, Halifax, NS; Brandy MacNeil, N. Sydney, NS; Gage Burke (Dana), Kempt Rd, NS; Riley MacNeil, Seaview, NS; Delanie Manegre, Calgary, AB; Grant Manegre, St. Albert, AB; her four great grandchildren, Norman MacNeil, Delia MacNeil, Bowen Burke and Tommy Tobin; her siblings, sister, Diana Sampson (Leo) of Sampsonville, NS; brother, Joe Cotie (Lillian) of Winnipeg, MB; as well as her many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers in-law.
She is predeceased by her father, Joseph Russell Cotie; her mother, Elizabeth Margaret Sampson (Mountain); mother-in-law, Evangeline Martell (Mombourquette); father-in-law, Stephen Martell; granddaughter, Tobin and nephew, Enos Sampson.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m . Sunday, July 23, 2023 , in the L’Ardoise Community Centre. Grave side burial for family will be held after the celebration.
