Frances Marie Shearer
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Francis Marie Shearer, a loving and devoted mother, grandma, nanny and friend to all those whose lives she touched. Marie passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 9, 2023 at her home in Campbellford, Ontario.
Marie was predeceased by her daughter Sue Seguire and by her brother Grant Shearer, and survived by her brothers Laurie Shearer (Sharon), Doug Shearer (Sally), Pete Shearer (Sandra), and Bill Shearer (Cathy). Her sons Alan Brockwell (Sylvia) and Brian Brockwell (Michelle); grandchildren Tiffany Ramsaran (Johann), Randi Brockwell (Ozie), Julian Brockwell (Shawna), Nathan Brockwell, Jeff Seguire (Allisha), and Angela Brockwell (Kyle); her great-grandchildren Ajayum, Tejan, Georgia, Jace, Alex and Florida.
Born in 1936 in Peterborough, Ontario, Marie was the oldest daughter of Art and Marjorie Shearer, and became a devoted older sister to her five younger brothers. Throughout her adult life she worked hard to support her family, wearing many different hats including an ill-fated stint at Woolworths, but ending her career as a legal office administrator.
While her work put food on the table, Marie’s legacy rests in the hearts of her family. She lived a full life as a mother, mentor, and dedicated grandmother. She loved to knit, tell stories and go on drives, even if they didn’t have an end in mind. Marie understood that the fun was in the journey itself. Whether she was “sitting lightly” in the back seat of a car, or inviting you into her home for a visit, Marie was always ready for a laugh or to feed anyone at any time they may come by.
Marie gave freely of herself her entire life, and when she passed, she left behind a lifetime of love, understanding, patience, kindness, and all of those values she held dear, that are carried on in her children and grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed, and forever in our hearts.
A joint celebration of Marie’s life and her daughter Sue’s life will be held at the Lion’s Club in Keene, ON, on Saturday, December 16, 2023 beginning at 1 p.m. Family and Friends are welcome.
