Obituary of Rodney Edwin Smart
Rod passed away at the Perth Site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital on November 10th, 2023. He was the cherished husband of Stephanie Smart for 48 years, father of Dan Smart and Melanie Smart of BC, step-father of Kevin Kendall (deceased) and LeeAnne Kendall-Kidd (deceased). Rod is survived by has grand-daughters Indigo and Neko Smart of Victoria BC and Lauren Kendall of Halifax NS, and his brother, Jim (Sue) of Ottawa. He was predeceased by an infant son, Timmy, his sister, Joan MacIsaac and his parents, Edna and Orval Smart.
Rod was born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario. He was a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and worked as a Group Actuary in Kingston and Toronto. Upon retirement he and Stephanie bought a book and CD store in Perth where Rod became known as the Jazz Man because of his love and broad knowledge of music, but especially jazz.
A gathering for family and friends is being planned for the spring of 2024. Rod’s ashes will be interred at Cataraqui Cemetery Kingston along side Stephanie’s mother. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors Inc., Perth Ontario.
