Obituary of Robert William Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Robert William ‘Bob’- Age 76, passed away in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, on November 9, 2023. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late R E ‘Honey’ and Violet (Foley) Montgomery.
Bob was a seaman all his working life, having started as a teenager on gypsum boats out of Hantsport. He went on to have an interesting and varied career at sea which took him to ports of call all over the world. He crewed on oil tankers, cruise ships, oceanographic vessels and lastly supply ships in the Beaufort Sea.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and never turned down a fishing or hunting trip with the boys. He was involved in many organizations including Sea Cadets, Boy Scouts, St John Ambulance and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24 where he enjoyed cribbage and dart tournaments among other activities until his health declined.
He is survived by his sister Heather, Bridgewater, and step-son Darren Frelick and wife Erin of Timberlea and numerous cousins.
There will be no service by request. Arrangements under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. For those who wish, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater or North Queens Nursing Home would be appreciated.
