Michael Nimigeon
Passed away peacefully at Matthews House, Alliston November 8, 2023 at 98 years of age.
Predeceased by his wife Lilian and grandson Darrel Nimigeon. Loving father of Brian (Rocky) (Debbie) and Bob (Pat). His greatest joy was spending countless hours with his grandchildren Mark (Chantel), Sean (Chantal), Darrel, Ryan (Kara) and Jason (Shez). Some of his most cherished moments were with his great grandchildren Mikayla, Cole, Kennedy, Quinn, Cassandra, Alex and Zachary.
He was a longtime employee of the Department of National Defence at Base Borden, a lifetime member of the Lisle Legion, avid supporter of Lisle baseball teams and was a Cub and Scout leader in Lisle for many years. He loved country and bluegrass music and was a “self proclaimed “accomplished harmonica player. Mike joined the army when he was just 18 and took part in the liberation of the Netherlands during WW11. Mike was also a prisoner of war and spent two months in a German prison camp. He spent many hours in various local schools talking to students about his experience during the war and answering all their questions. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Mike and Lilian’s lives will be held at Drury Funeral Centre on Saturday, June 8th from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
The Nimigeon family would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers at the Good Samaritan and Matthews house for all the care they provided during his stay with them. Donations to Matthews House Hospice would be appreciated in memory of Mike.
