Glenn passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023 at New Vista Care Home in Burnaby at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his wife and love of 47 years, Shirley, and his partner of 15 years, Lynne.
Glenn is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jayne and Brad, daughter Karen, grandchildren Caitlin (Coty) and Reilly (Ashley), great grandchildren Carsyn and Rowan, sister Katherine, brother Doug, and many nieces and nephews.
Glenn was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. He attended Catholic school and became very interested in and played a variety of sports. He played Senior B Basketball well into his adult life but golf was his true passion! He even considered golf as a profession but soon realized he had another calling.
Glenn’s father Angus was a Vancouver Police Constable. He was Glenn’s biggest role model and he realized that he too wanted to join the force. In May 1956 Glenn graduated from the
Vancouver Police Training Academy. During his tenure with the VPD he rose to the ranks of Police Constable, Corporal, Detective, Sergeant and Staff Sergeant. He worked with and on the Gambling Squad, Vice Squad, Coordinated Law Enforcement Unit and the Drug Squad. He retired in 1989 after 33 years of Service! Throughout his career Glenn made many good friends from not only the VPD but also the RCMP who often worked along side them on cases. Many of those friends remained close to him well into retirement.
After retirement Glenn and Shirley enjoyed many years of travel together. They also spent a lot of time at Black Mountain Ranch. Many good times were shared with family and friends and lots of “Happy Hour” stories were shared. Many of these trips included their granddaughter Caitlin who spent a lot of her childhood with Nana and Grampa. Most of Glenn’s leisure time in retirement was spent at Golden Eagles golf course where he made numerous dear friends and was able to display his golfing prowess winning the club championship at the age of 70.
Glenn was fortunate to have a second chance at love when he met Lynne Coleman (his sister’s long time family friend). They were able to enjoy 15 years of travel and good times before Lynne’s passing in Feb. 2023.
Glenn was known for his great sense of humour, loyalty and trustworthiness. He had a love for life and tried to instill that love to his children, grand children and great grand children. He will be sorely missed.
We would like to thank the many wonderful people at New Vista Care home who lovingly cared for Glenn over the past nine months.
A celebration of life will be held at the Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel on Saturday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m.
Please RSVP to Jayne at jawestwood@telus.net to confirm attendance.
The family requests in lieu of flowers a donation to the Alzheimer Society or the BC Cancer Research Society would be appreciated.

  1. Our deepest Sympathy to the McDonald Family:

Glenn was a true mentor to me over the many years that I knew him. His generosity was only outshone by his kindness, a truly one-of-a-kind man. Glenn had such an easygoing personality and demeaner, that he always left a new trail of comrades and friends on his journey through life. Always the great storyteller, everyone had a smile or chuckle when he finished his tale. Although he is gone, Glenn will never be Forgotten. Jim, Leeanne, Tyler
