Edward (Ted) David passed away at the West Parry Sound Health Centre on Monday, October 30th after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved husband of Marion. Cherished father to Faith (Quinton) and Ethan (Hailey). Predeceased by his mother Hazel David. Loving younger brother to Cheryl (Allen) and Kim (Bruce). Fondly remembered by his Mother- in-law, Fairie Lewin, sister-in-law, Heidi (Ross) and his numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted grew up in Scarborough, Ontario but felt God’s calling to the Muskoka-Parry Sound Area in the early 1990’s to minister, with his hospitality skills, at a local Christian camp. He never looked back, and “The North” became his new home.
Since 2004, Ted became a true member of the Parry Sound Community. If you have ever dined at one of our local restaurants in town over the years, chances are Ted had a hand in crafting your meal. Whether in the kitchen or attending to your needs, he dedicated himself to providing you with a dining experience you would appreciate and not soon forget. Ted took great pride in ensuring his customers left happy, guaranteeing they would be sure to return. He had a definite charismatic nature that never failed to bring smiles to those around him. He always said he enjoyed the sound of scraping plates, which gave him the pleasure of knowing you enjoyed your meal.
Following a stroke in 2021, and a subsequent cancer diagnosis in 2022, Ted spent all the time he could outdoors. You would often find him walking the trails and streets of town or lounging at the town beach just enjoying nature and watching the world go by, most times with a good cup of coffee in his hand. He thrived on going camping with his family but always extended an open invitation to all who wished to partake in the adventure. Countless cherished memories were made on these trips.
Ted lived his life dedicated to serving others. Despite his diagnosis, he delivered moments of laughter and gratitude during his year long fight. Ted was always a big kid at heart with a sensitive nature despite his stature. He will be lovingly remembered for his playful nature, endless stamina (and stubbornness), and his meals will be missed by many. His facial expressions and classic one liners were priceless, especially during his final weeks, and have provided us with many more precious stories and memories to hold dear to our hearts.
As a family we would like to thank those who walked the journey with him. These include all our friends and family who provided constant support and prayers, as well as all the medical professionals who gave their time and care to make him feel as comfortable as possible. A special thank you also goes out to Parry Sound Bike Night for their generosity in hosting a fundraiser in support of Ted’s medical expenses.
Cremation arrangements entrusted to the Torrance Funeral Home. The Celebration of life will be held at Bayside Family Church (4 Parry Sound Dr, Parry Sound) on Saturday November 11, 2023 at 2 PM. Visitation will begin at 1 PM.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated to continue to support local health care in our community.
