It is with great sadness that the family of Leslie Edwin Ahlstrom announces his sudden passing on October 26, 2023 in Edmonton.
He was born in Vegreville on March 13, 1944, and spent his childhood at his family’s farm close to Two Hills. During his university years he enrolled in the Canadian Forces and received his Bachelors of Education from the University of Alberta in 1966. It was fortune that smiled upon him as it was during these years that he met the love of his life, Lore, and they were married soon afterwards. Following military tours to Germany and Cyprus he restarted his studies in the U of A Faculty of Law, receiving his Law Degree in 1973. He actively pursued opportunities to practice law, first with the federal department of justice and then with the City of Edmonton, before setting up his own law practice in Sherwood Park where he worked with friends and close compatriots to assist with legal matters in the area as well as in the NorthWest Territories. While he kept close ties to the military, and commanded the Loyal 49th Edmonton Regiment in 1979, he donated his time to causes within the local community, including the Freemasons and St John Ambulance, from his fundraising for a military museum and the Sherwood Park library, as well as his prolific house building in Hawaii and closer to home.
Lee spoke fondly about his family and friends, travelling far and wide to maintain active ties with as many as he could, from his elementary school friends to those he met throughout his life. His greatest love was his family, and he will be remembered for his love and support, as both husband, father, and grandfather. Lee’s greatest legacy is the trail of kindness, benevolence and assistance that he left for others to enjoy.
Lee is survived by his wife Lore, daughter Catherine, son James, son-in-law Kevin, grandson Grayson, sister Barbara, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Lee was predeceased by his father Edwin, mother Margaret ‘Edie’, and sister Jean.
As per his wishes, a celebration of life will take place in the spring of 2024, in his favourite environment of friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Salvation Army or to the charity of your choice.
