Obituary for
Ralph Cooke
Cooke, Ralph Douglas – Age 76, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023 surrounded by family at his home in Lornevale.
Ralph married the love of his life at the tender age of eighteen and raised four daughters with Liz. He would say that it was a miracle that he survived to 76 with four girls. Family was his greatest pride and he loved each and every addition fiercely. Just a few weeks before his passing, he was overjoyed to meet great grandchild number thirteen, Lillian.
He shared a special bond with his sister, Phyllis, Ralph as the baby of the family and Phyllis as the eldest. He treasured each niece, nephew and cousin. To Ralph if you were family, you were family no matter how distantly related.
Ralph worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting and every year would fill the freezer. He would have been disappointed that his doe tag went unfilled this year. Ralph loved growing his own vegetables and raced Nancy every year to get his garden in. He appreciated lazy afternoons at Theresa’s camper watching the tide.
Ralph loved to laugh and tease. No one was exempt. Visits with Jack and Robert made the house shake with laughter. His door was always open and each and every visit with friends and family made his day. He taught his children many things. Be kind, be accepting, be grateful, laugh when you can and never take your eyes off your food when Dad was around.
He leaves behind a legacy of love. He will be forever missed by daughters, Theresa (Arthur), Nancy (Phil) and Helen (Andrew); sister, Phyllis; grandchildren, Martina, Jordan, Adam, Megan, Kalie, Sawyer, Faith, Connor, Ian and Sean; thirteen great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ralph was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Deborah; sisters, Mildred and Muriel; brother, Kenneth and parents, Perley and Anna.
The family would like to thank the Colchester County Palliative Care team as well as VON who supported Ralph in remaining in his home during his final days. We are all grateful for the exceptional care and compassion provided. No words can say enough.
A celebration of Ralph’s life will take place on Saturday, November 4th at 1 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Reception to follow. The interment of Ralph and Liz will take place in Folly Mountain Cemetery. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
