On October 20, 2023, Brittany Joy Morning Bull “Pooksiksikiakii” (Little Blackfoot Woman) & Baby Indy Violet Love “PokaSspiyiakii” of Piikani Nation passed away suddenly in Strathmore, Alberta. Brittany was a beloved Mom, Daughter, Sister, Niece, Aunty, and Friend.
Brittany was born on April 15, 1985, in Pincher Creek, Alberta. Brittany graduated from the Medical Office Assistant Program at REEVES College in 2017 in Calgary, Alberta. Brittany worked at various organizations in Piikani Nation (Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, Aakom-Kiyii Health Center, Piikani Social Development) throughout her adult life and more recently worked as an Indigenous Library Experience Guide at the Calgary Public Library.
Brittany was a loving mother to her special daughter Kahlani Keewitan. Brittany is survived by her parents Lorraine and Randy McHugh, sisters Tiffany, Kelli (Mark), Danielle Wolfleg and Kim (Lee) Wesley, and brothers Tyler (Gina), Brent, David Crow Eagle and Jacy Warrior, nieces; Kiaora, Sadie, Sophia, Faith, Soota and Naddy; nephews; Keegan, Kobe, Sethman and Liam. Brittany is also survived by her uncles Albert (Faye), Gary (Melanie), favorite Uncle Barry (Kyra) Morning Bull, and Ira (Lydia) McHugh. Aunties, Lydia, Marisha, Darcia (Glen) Provost, Florence Weasel Bear and Aunty Paula (Peter) Smith. Extended Family from Siksika Mario (Karen), Larry, Jim (Adaline) McHugh, Raymonda Waterchief, She is also survived by her Adopted Grandparents Morris and Betty Ann Little Wolf, God Parents James and Mary Plain Eagle, adopted sisters Jessica, Renata and Shawna Good Striker and special cousins, Shawna (Wade), Lance, Helen, Jessica, Candace, Satira (Clement Jr.), Danielle, Rebekha, Chanelle, Caitlyn, Nano (Summer), Macyn (Tory), Tawnya, Caden, Connor, baby Cece (Ciana), Brinley, Calleigh, Caleb and Gabby, Joelle, Rylan, Hunter, Kicker, Abby and Blayne. Brittany also leaves behind her Special Friend Daniel Suarez Pineda, her Sundance family and numerous cousins and extended family from the Yellow Horn, North Peigan, Waterchief, McHugh, One Spot and Weasel Bear families.
Brittany left us to be reunited with her special great grandpa Jim Morning Bull. She will also be embraced by her Grandparents Jumbo and Isobel Yellow Horn, Clarence Jr and Christine McHugh and Grandmother Violet Teresa Water Chief. She gets to hug her Aunty Becky and Uncle Malcom Morning Bull. She will also be reunited with her cherished friends who have passed on before her.
Brittany was a bright light who lived life with great emotion and passion. She believed greatly in forgiveness, thinking everyone deserved second chances. To those who knew her best, your memories are filled with big belly laughter and crazy stories. She loved a good adventure and everything pretty. She was the epitome of Aunty. She had the best listening ear never judging you for the road you walked on. The best part of her was no matter how much life tried to get her down, she would dust herself off, hold her head up high and walk with grace and confidence. She was bubbly and believed everyone deserved happiness. Brittany took great pride in her spirituality and being Niistitapi. She was always open and willing to share her knowledge to those who asked. Brittany’s greatest fulfilment was to be the best mom she could. Brittany and baby Indy will be greatly and forever missed. Until we meet again loves fly high and watch over us from heaven.
