Obituary of Clifford Rose
Clifford Andrew Rose was born in November, 1935 at Lady Grey Hospital, Nipawin, Sask. He passed away on October 19, 2023 at Nipawin Hospital at the age of 87. He attended schools in Saskatoon, Dorintosh, White Fox and Meadow Lake where he grew up and became an electrical engineer at the University of Saskatchewan. Cliff married Clarice Lanz on October 12, 1957 and welcomed daughters, Dianne Gaylene in Winnipeg on September 25, 1958 and Debra Louise in Bistroffe, France on May 15, 1960. He was born the 4th of 7 children of John and Martha Rose. In his early years in Northern Sask., he experienced being a wolf cub, helper, teacher advocate, trapper, logger, suede sawyer, sailor, horse rider and hay mower. His career spanned across Canada and Europe where he first navigated a C-45, and was selected to be on a CF-100 interceptor squadron [RAF] in Europe with NATO. On his return to Canada, he worked as an electrical engineer on radar, in-fared systems with Canadian General Electric (CGE) and later with Canadian Marconi (CMC) on military systems. Cliff also worked in Toronto with Ian Martin Associates and Ottawa for Transport Canada as a consulting engineer in avionics, radar all-weather mapping and reconnaissance to support shipping. One of the greatest honors of his life was to take the microphone on behalf of Canada for deliberations on several occasions in the company of Jean Luc Pepin and Don Mazenkowsky, Transport Ministers, governmental leaders he took seriously and as professionally as he could. Cliff continued his consulting practice [CAR], travelled in the USA and South America. He met a lot of people, developed a good life, did meaningful work, curling, golfing and playing music. Those who knew him, were always greeted with a funny story, soothing country song and a silly joke.
Cliff was a board member of the Nipawin Legion, and past president of the Nipawin & District Chamber of Commerce and Rotary, and president of the northeast chapter of the Country Music Association. He loved making music with his family and putting on shows with the Classic Country Corral Music Group at community events. His final achievement was serving as primary contact on a Rotary International global grant for Indigenous Community Literacy Development in northeast Saskatchewan, which was recognized by his daughter Debra in a presentation at the 2nd Global Followership Conference (GFC) at Norfolk University, Virginia, US, in March, 2023.
