Kenneth’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Edward Cameron Stuart, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, at the age of 83. Ken passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Aruba, Ken was the son of the late Lionel and Dorothy (Brownell) Stuart. In 1958, he left Aruba and embarked on a journey that would lead him to Canada, where he followed in his older brothers’ footsteps by joining the Canadian Armed Forces as a Radio Operator in the Signal Corps. His dedication and leadership were evident as he quickly climbed the ranks, leaving a lasting impression on all members he served with. Ken’s military career spanned 35 years, during which he was stationed around the world, retiring in Nanaimo, BC as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1995. Aside from his military career, Ken had a deep passion for golf. When he wasn’t refining his swing on the golf course, you could frequently find him in front of the TV, immersed in the sport he held dear to his heart. His precise and methodical nature wasn’t limited to the golf course; it extended to his meticulous care for his yard and cars. Those fortunate enough to spend time with Ken would often witness his spontaneous bursts of singing and dancing, a testament to his vibrant spirit.
Ken is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Donna (Seabrook), as well as their children: Kenneth (Tana) Stuart of Victoria, BC; Keith (Jennifer) Stuart of Kingston, ON; Donna (Robert) Burchell of Greenwood, NS; and Cheryl (Tom Fagan) Stuart of Ottawa, ON. His enduring legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: James (Melissa), Alex (Stephanie), Aaron (Leanne), Evan (Nova), Trevor (Jenna), Kari, Bronte (Brad), and Ryan (Crystal). Additionally, Ken found immense joy in being a great-grandfather to Ethan, Avery, Bennett, William, Freya, Charlie, Emma, Rose, Mason, Benjamin, Madison, and Rylee. In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Debooij, and brothers, John and Charlie Stuart. Cremation has already taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, an organization close to Ken’s heart. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and support staff at Valley Regional Hospital for their compassionate care and unwavering support during our father’s time there. Your dedication and kindness were a source of comfort during a challenging period, and we deeply appreciate all that you did for him and our family. Your commitment to providing exceptional care will forever be remembered with gratitude.
