Olga passed on Saturday, September 30 2023 in her 90th year. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years Enrico earlier this year. She will be greatly missed by her children Sylvia (Lou), Brenda (Paolo) and Eddie, her grandchildren Sebastian (Hope), Katarina (Ryan), Simon (Caroline), Claudia (Carson) and Sabrina and her great grandchildren Adrian, Marissa, Cylis and Gemma.
Olga arrived in Toronto in 1961 to marry Enrico after a 2 year long distance courtship.
Like many immigrants life was hard and much time was spent in the home where she would tend her garden and plan and prepare and take care of her home and family. ‘Home made’ was standard. Be it daily meals, sauce, giardiniera or clothes, she was a woman of many talents. Her ‘sugo’ recipe is something her family still cherish.
But honestly, it was her baking that she excelled at. Her recipe binder was loaded and bursting with her treasured recipes. She could happily spend hours and days baking for special occasions. Any special occasion! And these sweets were always well received and anticipated at every occasion. She was an example of how to be a good mother and a wonderful partner. She set a standard for her children to follow and was always available to help her kids and grandkids in anyway. In her later years she struggled with dementia but never forgot to be polite and say thank you. She was always grateful for a kind word or helping hand.
We remain grateful to the wonderful staff at Villa Leonardo Gambin where she lived her final years. The attention and care she received gave her a quality of life that give the family great comfort.
She will be fondly remembered by her extended family and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 61 Jutland Rd., Toronto, Ontario. Entombement Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
