With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jack Midford Long on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Riverview Gardens. Born in Toronto 72 years ago. Son of the late Midford and Melinda Long. Beloved spouse of Shirley for over 26 years. Jack is survived by his daughters Jacqueline and Janine and his grandchildren David, Rosiemarie, Tanya, Kristen, and Jessica. Jack always had an opinion on many different things. He was never shy to put his thoughts down in the form of letters to the editor in the Chatham Voice. He enjoyed going to watch harness racing, and when he cheered for hockey it was always the Toronto Maple Leafs. Throughout the last few years of his life Jack was the recipient of the kind and attentive care of the “Day Away” programs with the Alzheimer Society in Chatham. His love of Johnny Cash earned him the nick name “The man in black”. Jack also received exceptional care and compassion during his last 8 months at Riverview Gardens, their kindness will always be remembered. Jack will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His family will be remembering him privately.
