BANDY, Shirley May- Shirley May Bandy (nee Buerger), of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully at her residence, Albright Manor on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Loving mother of David (Brenda) Bandy, Ken (Margot) Bandy, and Carolyn (Tom) Wiebe. Cherished grandmother to Nathan (Meredith), Kyle (Sarah), Leanne, Kurt (Heather), Gregg (Julie), Brent (Lindsey), Scott, Jeff (Matt), Carlene, Renae (Cameron), Julie, Shawn, Joel (Jenna), Robyn, Todd (Rebecca), and Dale (Chastine). Great-grandmother to Nicolas, Bree, Ken, August, Alexis, Amelia, Caleb, Tenan, Nate, Luca, Elizabeth, and Audrey. Shirley is fondly remembered by other family members and was predeceased by her husband Donald, and brother Bob.
Shirley was born in Buffalo, New York on May 2, 1929. She worked at The Buffalo Evening News and loved music, dancing, roller skating and movies. She married Donald Bandy on May 27, 1950. Little did she know that marrying an immigration officer would lead to setting up households in Fort Erie, Cologne and Munich (Germany), Nelson BC, St. Boniface Manitoba, Ottawa, Toronto, and Niagara Falls. No matter where they moved, she made sure her children made good friends at school and sat down to wonderful meals on the table every night. In 1972 she became a Christian and her love for children led her to a faithful ministry in the nursery at Redeemer Bible Church for many years. Shirley had a servant’s heart and quietly ministered to people in behind-the-scene ways. She reached out to hurting people, newcomers and others who needed a friend.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Albright Manor in Beamsville who provided Shirley with love and care during the last six years.
There will be no visitation. A private memorial service for family members will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Morse and Son Funeral Home in Niagara Falls. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through a donation to a charity of one’s choice.
