It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Mary Cathcart (nee Halpin), who died peacefully at Providence Villa in Scarborough on Wednesday 13 September 2023. Born in Brookeborough, Northern Ireland in 1926, she moved to England as a young woman to study nursing and where she married the love of her life, Ivor George Cathcart. In 1953 she emigrated to Canada where she and her husband raised their family.
She is remembered with love by her children Ivor (Virginia), Yvonne (Zafar), Myra (Doug), Denise, Brian (Teresa) and Pauline (Don); as well as her grandchildren Stephen, Michael,Christina, Oona, Matthew, Cameron, Nicole, Cantrys, Shane and Spencer; and her great-grandchildren Atticus, Breauna, Mikayla, Hailey, Izyk, Jack, Logan and Declan. She will be dearly missed by Frances Campbell, a friend for over seventy years and by her extended family and friends in Canada, England and Ireland.
She was predeceased by Ivor George Cathcart, her loving husband of sixty years, her brother Kevin Halpin, her sister Cathleen Henderson and her grandson Ivor Keenan.
Mass of the Faithful Departed will take place on Monday 18 September 2023 at 11:00 am at St. James, Colgan, followed by interment at St James Cemetery. A reception will follow at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham.
