Liz Weeks (née Beacom) passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by love, on Saturday, September 9th, 2023.
Beloved wife of the late Douglas George Weeks (1940-1993). Loving partner of the devoted Tom Thrasher. Dear companion of the late Douglas Gignac. Dedicated mother of Susan and her husband Dan Adams, Sally and her husband Jakub Labath. Cherished grandmother to her “little darlings” Sophia and Casey Adams, and Audrey and Adam Labath. Loving daughter of the late Louie and Thomas Beacom. Survived by sisters Joy Stewart and her husband the late Duncan ‘Bud’, Sharron Schwartz and her husband Steven. Nieces and nephews will carry memories of Aunt Liz. Fondly remembered by the Thrasher family, and her many friends, especially the Global Bridgettes and Painting Pals.
Liz loved to entertain; she was happiest preparing and presenting mouthwatering meals for a house full of family and friends, always with an eye for the fine details. She enjoyed live theatre and concerts while ‘dressed to the nines’. A highlight of family birthdays was Liz playing Happy Birthday on her ukulele in full costume. As a longtime avid bridge player, Liz focused on cautiously contemplating the game and going for the Grand Slam. With a painting always in the works, she humbly prided herself on her art skills and the fun relationships that blossomed from her beloved hobby. She lived as the ultimate DIYer, having mastered any ´how to’ project from sewing to woodworking to designing. Liz confidently took on any project and fixed most anything and everything. Combining her love of learning and her heart to care for others, Liz returned to school later in life to obtain her Registered Nurse Diploma. Liz satisfied her thirst for travel by cruising the world’s waterways, cycling magnificent terrains, taking in architecture, art and culture across the world and wintering in Panama City Beach.
Liz’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care provided at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, at Health Sciences North and in her home. In Parry Sound, Liz received excellent care from the Emergency, ICU, Acute and Palliative in-patient teams. We thank the Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology teams in Sudbury for their inspirational care. We are grateful to the Nurses, Therapists, Community Doctors and Personal Support Workers who supported Liz at home, especially the A-team.
As was Liz’s wish, cremation has taken place.
Family and friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home (705-746-5855), 81 James Street, Parry Sound, on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 -8:00 P.M., and on Saturday, September 23rd from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M.
A celebration of Liz’s life will take place in the Logan Memorial Chapel on Saturday, September 23rd, at 2:00 P.M.
Reception to follow.

It was our pleasure to serve Liz over a great many years. We would like to think our advice helped her in some of her DYI projects. It was always a pleasure to see her and chat. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.

We met Tom and Liz as we were about to embark on the Grand South American cruise 10 years ago January. We played cards and games frequently and became good friends. After that, we joined them often for winters in PCB for more cards, games, dinners, and biking. She shared her latest art pieces with us as well as her latest shopping find. We will deeply miss her with Tom at her side. What a fabulous couple they made!

Dear Sue and Sally, and all who mourn the passing of your mom,
Praise God for this woman who helped to bring you into this world & nourish and support you through the years! This hymn comes to mind:
O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee.
I give thee back the life I owe,
that in thine ocean depths its flow
may richer, fuller be.
O Light that follows all my way,
I yield my flick’ring torch to thee.
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
that in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
may brighter, fairer be.
O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee.
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
and feel the promise is not vain,
that morn shall tearless be.
O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee.
I lay in dust, life’s glory dead,
and from the ground there blossoms red,
life that shall endless be.

Dear Susan and Sally and families,
Richard and I send you our deepest sympathy in the passing of your dear mom. We have enjoyed a many-year friendship with Liz; she was always so positive and supportive and interested in what we were doing. She was like a bright light with that wonderful smile. You will all miss her terribly; it’s very difficult to lose your mother/grandmother but hopefully you will be able to get pleasure and strength from your many memories.
Sincerely Rich and Pat Poole
