Age 80 of Sheet Harbour, our beloved mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Daye (Myers), earned her heavenly wings with her family by her side on September 5, 2023, at Harbourview Lodge.
Betty Jean was born in Sheet Harbour, on December 14, 1942, to the late Roy and Reta Myers (Russell).
Her first job was at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Sheet Harbour. She had an aptitude for finance, and became Manager of the Sheet Harbour Credit Union, where she retired in December 1999 after 30 years of loyal service.
Mom loved life and was always ready for a good time. She had many friends and was very social. She enjoyed knitting, lexicon puzzles, playing cards, darts, bowling, dancing, and her favorite of all, BINGO!!
Mom’s faith was strong, and that shone through with her 63 years served as a member of the Sheet Harbour CWL. She was a past president and had held the office of treasurer for many years.
Although we were a family of 6, you could be guaranteed there was always an extra person or two around the dinner table. Mom always said at mealtime, “If there was an extra mouth to feed, we’d make do!” Our home was affectionately known as the “Daye’s Do Drop-In!” Mom’s family was very important to her, and she loved us all so very much!
Betty Jean is predeceased by her husband Boyd of 58 years, as well as her brother Tommy. Brothers in law; Cyril Daye, Jim Strachan, Sidney Prest, John Deveau, and sister-in-law, Pauline Luiken.
She is survived by her children, Chris (Carla), Tim (Pam), Jody (Alex), Nancy Lee (Dave), her grandchildren, Daniel John (Amanda), Kennedy, Olivia, and Kristen. Sisters; Mary Lou, Dorothy Ann, Nancy (Bob), Susan (Randy), Lisa (Henry), and brother, Peter (Julia). Brother-in-law Auriel and sister-in-law Joan (Roy).
There will be a mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 11, at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, with a graveside committal immediately after the service, and reception to follow at the Sheet Harbour Legion in Watt Section, where we will celebrate our parents, Betty Jean and Boyd.
Thank you to Dr. Don MacDonald for his care and compassion. To the Harbourview Lodge Team, there are no words to express how grateful we are that you loved our mom as much as we did. Words cannot convey how much we appreciated the support and care you provided to our mom during her time at Harbourview, and the compassion shown us for the time we spent there during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Society in her memory.
