Passed away peacefully at Smiths Falls Community Hospital, Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at age 97. Born December 29, 1925, in Leeds, England, youngest child (of 7) of the late William and Elizabeth (Start) Mitchell. Predeceased by her beloved husband Harold, to whom she was married for 70 years. Cherished mother of Graham, Beverly, and Lynn of Greenbush, and Brant (Winhara) of Brockville. Joyce emigrated, with Harold, from England in 1949, settling in Montreal, Quebec, where she spent 29 years raising a family. In 1977, Joyce and Harold moved a second time and again established roots in Leeds – this time in Leeds County, Ontario. Joyce called Greenbush her home for the last 46 years. During the 1950’s, Joyce was Wardrobe Mistress for “The Bell Show”, which entertained Canadian troops in some interesting and remote places, including Canada’s vast Arctic. Joyce was an active member of the Mountainview Home & School Association, in Quebec, producing a Fashion Show and other fund raising activities. In Brockville, Joyce supported TISS by helping to install an auditorium sound system and a school-wide paging system.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St., E., Brockville. Details of a celebration of Joyce’s life will be announced at a future date. In memory of Joyce, donations to the Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation or the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre, will be gratefully acknowledged.
