Obituary of Irene Geneva Schnare
Irene Geneva (Hamm) Schnare, of Sambro, sadly passed away on August 29, 2023.
My mom, age 96, passed away peacefully after a short stay at Northwood. She was born on February 19, 1927 in Sambro where she grew up and lived all her life.
Irene was a loyal member of St. James United Church where she was involved in the choir, the UCW and she also taught Sunday School for many years. She also worked at the R.N.S.Y.S. in Purcells Cove for fourteen years, but foremost she was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, George and Olive Hamm; siblings, Clyda (Phil) Marryatt, Jessie (Art) Miller, Russell (Mamie) Hamm, Eddie (Robie) Brunt, Isabel (Stan) Brunt, Lionel (Louise) Hamm, Josie (Reg) Green, and Dermie (Doris) Hamm.
She enjoyed the Saturday night card games and Sunday afternoon drives and picnics with her family.
Irene will be missed by her husband, Royce of seventy-two years; daughter, June (Alan) Dempsey and her only grandson, Jeremy.
The family would like to thank the staff “7th Floor” and the other members of the Northwood Campus for all their help.
Arrangements are under the care of the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Limited, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS B3P 1K6.
