Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Shirley Alice (Smith) Mitchell announce her passing which occurred on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023, at Kings Way Care Center. Born 1932, in Saint John, Shirley was predeceased by her husband Bill of 71 years, her mother and father and eleven siblings. Shirley worked 28 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a pediatrics desk secretary. In her earlier years, she participated in many plays and benefits for wartime efforts. She loved to spend time travelling, atving, hunting and fishing, but her biggest passion was recreational swimming. She was an active member in her church, working with the refreshment committee, leading Junior Worship and Pioneer Girls Group.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Linda Rutherford (Tom); son Stephen Mitchell (Alice); seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the Kings Way caregivers. They went above and beyond with their care.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). As per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dementia/Parkinsons research or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
